Anyone got any advice on what to eat with braces?
I've had them in now for about a week and im just struggling to eat still sometimes, ive been living of mashed up wheetabix, rice, sauce, scrambled egg, and mashed potato and im getting sick of eating the same old. I don't like soup, im normally a fussy eater but its getting to the stage where i just want to eat something else other than rice and sauce! When i bite it really hurts my teeth, so going to wait a little while more till i start trying to bite stuff as i had to have my brace fixed as one of the things came of one of my teeth on the first day :| so i had to go back last thursday to get it fixed so my teeth are extra sore!!
Also any advice on what to do when i brush them? My current routine is using my electirc toothbrush for a general brush, then i have a baby toothbrush for the brace on top and bottom and around etc, then i have general mouthwash throughout the day, and at night time i have a flouride mouthwash. Any advice to make sure i dont end up with bad teeth as i reallllllly don't want to haha, sorry for the long post, just want to make sure my teeth come out straight and healthy afterwards!

You just need to give it time. Your mouth will stop hurting in a few days and you can go back to eating regularly. Why not try eating pasta, oatmeal, pancakes, tuna fish salad, and other soft foods? If you're really struggling, take some Ibuprofen before you sit down to eat.

As for brushing, you're doing just fine. Keep it up, especially the mouth wash.

While may years ago, I had the worst orthodontia case ever as a kid. I eventually was able to eat anything except corn-on-the-cob.
I just couldn't get that out of my braces. I believe my orthodontist warned me about eating that. Electric toothbrushes did exist then, but I just had to work at it with a normal toothbrush. I believe I also used some sort of effervescent mouthwash to encourage detritus to leave the dark corners of my braces. (I don't remember the name of it and I believe whatever brand it was was discontinued.) Ask your orthodontist for tips the next time you see him or her. I remember also being warned that a lot of ortho patients need some cavity work once the braces come off. I know I had a couple of them.

Also when they do come off...don't skimp on the retainer. My case was so bad I was seeing the doctor for seven years, but when I went away to college I stopped wearing the retainer. Some of my teeth move back, though not nearly as severely as they had been as a grade school kid. I should have worn it a couple more years.

You can still (and should) floss while you have braces! I actually had some problems with my gums while I had braces and I couldn't believe that no one showed me how to floss until months after I got them. You can ask your orthodontist for some threaders, or you can just buy them at any pharmacy (CVS, Walgreens) or Target/Walmrt. Here is 1 brand www.target.com . . . You thread the floss into the plastic threader, then pull that through the gap over top of your braces and through your teeth.
