Greetings! Since it's a new year, poised to be very different than any year to date, I thought I'd embark on it with a new diary!
Quick background for new/old/forgetful/awesome lurkers:
Moved from Missouri to Alabama last August for school, doing AWESOMELY, loving every minute of it. All the same, antsy to graduate and move to Asheville, NC. Fell in love with Asheville after going there for an alternative energy conference in November, can't see myself moving anywhere else. Alas, still 3 years until I finish grad school...
Right now, it's looking like my summer will be full of adventures. I'm (most likely!) going to Greece for the month of June, North Carolina for the month of July and back to Alabama in August to relax before starting my last year of undergrad.
Also, I blog! Former lurkers and commentators, there's a lot new to see! I changed the name, the layout, everything! There's a great new entry tonight as well
I'm currently in love with this song and video, for those of you who don't follow my blog.
Also, follow me on twitter! 58 Replies to I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8186, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Sun Jan 22, 2012 07:15 PM
First off, new blog post today! I'm seriously in love with the new name and layout.
I've been feeling pretty horrific today, which sucks since I wanted to go to the gym. My cramps were just unbearable though, and even now, they're not quite gone.
I'm also fairly certain I want bangs. I've been debating it since I got my hair cut last month, but I chickened out. I DID work hard to grow them out, but at the same time...I'm bored with my hair. A change might be nice. I'm just so indecisive | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Krystal Comments: 8038, member since Tue Sep 02, 2003On Sun Jan 22, 2012 07:59 PM
You should totally go for bangs! I'm also growing my hair out again and it's at the ridiculous stage that I hate...the awkward in between stage! I was also considering bangs but I'm chicken too.
Also I love the new layout of your blog! So pretty. I still read every post but I hardly ever comment on anyone's blogs anymore, probably since I never even update my own! I should fix that. | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8186, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Sun Jan 22, 2012 08:05 PM

We should get them together so that neither of us chickens out | |

This class is SO boring. Dear lord. "Language and Culture" will be the death of me this semester. 15 minutes left, 15 minutes left...
Today is an endurance test. I slept horribly...maybe 5 hours. I got to campus at 9, and will be in class until 3:30. Then I have a meeting on campus from 6-7 and a college democrats gathering from 7:30-10. I swear, I'm passing out when I get home.
There's not enough caffeine in the world today, haha. | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8186, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Wed Jan 25, 2012 12:04 PM
I met with my advisor and it looks like Greece will be a go! I need 36 more credits. I'll take 6 this summer through the program, 15 Fall 2012 and 15 Spring 2013, then GRADUATION! I never thought this would come. However, here it is, staring me in the face. It seems like the past 12 months have absolutely flown by, and to think that in a short 12 months I'll be in my last semester of undergraduate study? I have to go this semester to meet with the head of my department and get my degree audited, then I sign my "contract" for graduation. I get my class ring in the fall.
Oh, and I sign the lease for our new place this afternoon. Everything is falling into place! Now I just need a job | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By PinUpGirl Comments: 24279, member since Tue Jul 16, 2002On Wed Jan 25, 2012 12:44 PM
I'm so jealous you get to go to Greece. I was supposed to go to Ireland my junior year and then got cold feet. I've regretted it ever since. It looked like a really fun trip. One of my many regrets from college. | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8186, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Thu Jan 26, 2012 11:05 PM
Yeah Em, I'm SO HAPPY! I feel very fortunate I get to do this, I had written off any hope of studying abroad long ago because I couldn't find one that worked with my graduation plan. So happy this all fell into place!
This is a weird year so far. I never hate Valentine's Day, but I'm ridiculously sick of being single. I never really understood people who were like "I want to see someone, but not serious." I mean, it's not like I'm itching to get married or anything, but I always sort of had the mindset "why date someone if you can't see a future with them?" Now I'm much more of the mindset of NOT wanting to find "the one" but wanting someone to go on dates with, all that. No luck though, le sigh. | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By DeStijl Comments: 6486, member since Sat Jul 17, 2004On Thu Jan 26, 2012 11:52 PM
this might seem like a strange question, but what is a class ring? We don't have those here (I don't think, anyway) - I've always been intrigued! | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8186, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Fri Jan 27, 2012 11:36 AM

Haha, you guys don't have them?! That's so funny. I do often find myself questioning the practice of buying a $400 ring, but it's just a part of the graduation thing here! I have a high school ring, which is very different from a college ring.
On a high school ring, you generally have your birthstone on the front, with your high school name surrounding it. On one side of the ring, you have your class year and something that symbolizes what you did during high school, like this girl's in the picture is art-related. On the other side is your name and your high school's mascot/symbol. So mine is a peridot, and on the one side is a 4 leaf clover and 2007 (I was an irish dancer) and on the other side was Kayla and my school's mascot. I still love it.
College ones are a bit different in that there's a lot more range. Mine will just be plain, this one to be exact.

We had class rings too even though I was homeschooled. Pretty much the same thing only we had no school mascot. I didn't get one...I thought they looked terrible and I just couldn't justify spending that much money.
I really like the college ring though...if the HS ring looked like that I definitely would have bought it. The simpler the better for me! | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By UberGoober Comments: 5749, member since Sat May 15, 2004On Fri Jan 27, 2012 11:52 AM
Our high school rings had a large range. Mine hardly resembles a class ring. No one at my undergrad did class rings for college graduations-I think some sororities and fraternities members might get a ring for their sorority, but it was not really done for college like it was a big deal in high school. I hardly wear my class ring, but that's because I don't really wear rings at all! So I feel a little bad because my parents bought it and I haven't really gotten a ton of use out of it. | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8186, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Fri Jan 27, 2012 02:50 PM
Honestly...if my parents didn't insist on buying it, I might not have gotten my high school ring. They're buying my college one as well, but I'd probably spring for it if they weren't. My school is huge on pride and tradition.
Anyhow...in the past few hours, my summer plans have taken a dramatic turn. New blog post about it. | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Firebird Comments: 1930, member since Mon Feb 14, 2005On Fri Jan 27, 2012 02:56 PM

Interesting - I wonder if it's a regional thing, because high school class rings are unheard of, at least in my part of California (San Francisco). No one I knew of had them, so if they existed, they were definitely not a big thing. College ones I've definitely heard about - I don't know much about how they work at my school, though.
Edit - also, you're really, really making me want to go to Asheville now! | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8186, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Tue Jan 31, 2012 11:56 PM
I had such a great weekend! Busy though, and very unexpected. Friday, roomie went to bed at like 8 and I was so bored. Our neighbors were throwing a party and came to invite us, so I made her get up and come out. It ended up being lame, but we called one of my friends and went out to the bars. I had a pineapple upside down cake shot and it was SO GOOD. Definitely my new favorite shot.
Saturday, I called a few of my friends to see if they needed to go shopping, because I was dropping off a job application and picking up a few things. That turned into a trip to the liquor store and all of us congregating at my house. I stayed sober (I knew I'd be driving) and mixed drinks. It was hilarious, and a great night. I'm probably the most responsible DD ever...I didn't even try a sip of a drink, AND I kept count of peoples drinks for them.
This week has been slow but good. I'm overtired (bleh), but tomorrow is Wednesday! I have tests starting next week, so this weekend will be full of studying. I'm really committed to getting all A's this semester, so I just want to eat, sleep, relax and study this weekend. Maybe watch a movie with a few friends.
Tomorrow should be fun. Roomie and I are going to see "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" in the afternoon. I loved it, and she hasn't seen it. Thursday night, I have a club social event (woot). Oh, and Sunday I have a superbowl party. You know...because I love sports. | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8186, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Wed Feb 01, 2012 12:29 PM

Oh my goodness, it's going to be a rough morning! It's already 3 am. Thankfully I don't have to get up until 11
My week was so hectic. Three tests last week. Anthro of sex on Tuesday (got a 90%), Literature on Thursday (got an 88%) and Mythology immediately afterwards on Thursday (score unknown). Then, I had a social outreach meeting on Thursday night, then dinner with one of my clubs. Friday, I had a party at my house. Saturday, I had a Zooey Deschanel marathon with a friend (New Girl episodes, SNL, 500 Days of Summer). Today has been lazy!
This week is poised to be busy as well. Tonight (Monday), I have a study session for my Physical Anthro exam, then a guest speaker for Democrats meeting. Tuesday will be spent studying my butt off, what a fun Valentine's Day! Wednesday night, we have an environmentalist speaker coming for Environmental club, Thursday is social outreach and Friday is a surprise party for a friend. Phew! What's funny is that this week is SO MUCH slower than last...it's almost relaxing.
My big goal for this year was to be more social. Previously, I'd take care of the necessary things (school, homework and studying) and then spend my down-time pretty solo. I'm much happier when I'm busy, so my new second priority is spending time with people. Let's face it, there's only so much studying you can do. I'd rather hit the library for three hours and knock it out so that I can go out for dinner than spend six hours at home, watching TV and doing homework intermittently. I've been SO MUCH happier, and my grades are actually BETTER than ever. Woot. | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8186, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Mon Feb 20, 2012 02:06 AM
I desperately need to work on my sleep habits! It's almost 3 am, and I'm wide awake. Tomorrow (today) is going to be killer too, I have a test on Tuesday I desperately need to study for. Eesh. Why do I always procrastinate? I never study until the day before a test, but then I do well on the test, so it's like I get rewarded for bad behavior. Gahh.
My weekend was fun! Friday was a little bit TOO much fun. I hadn't intended on drinking much, but since I didn't have to drive (I usually end up being sober cab), I went a bit crazy. It's not even that I got super drunk, I just tried this new type of beer called "Wild Blue" that is stronger than normal beer, and blueberry. Oh geez. I puked for the first time in years, and had a nasty hangover all day. I'm the DD for the foreseeable future now. Saturday, a friend came over for movies and SNL. Today, I had club stuff.
Anyhow, today should be pretty chill, as it is technically Monday. Class is only from 12-1. I love Mondays. Then, I'll come home and order some pizza and watch TV, then delve into studying. Club meeting 7-8, then home for more studying. Not having to wake up at the crack of dawn makes Mondays so much more enjoyable! | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8186, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Sun Feb 26, 2012 03:13 PM
First off, url=http://ellelabohemienne.blogspot.com/2012/02/things-ive-been-loving-trip-down-memory.html]new blog entry[/url].
Sorry for the hiatus! It's been insanely busy. Life is mostly really good. I got an A on the really hard biophysical anthropology exam I was worried about...yay!
The next five months are shaping up to be ridiculous. I'm hopefully going to Chicago over spring break, for a college democrats convention. If the funding doesn't get pulled together though, I'll be headed down further south to visit my dad's family. I head back to Kansas City in early May, spend a week there and will then be in Minnesota for the last two weeks of May. In late June, my dad and I have to head down here to pack up my stuff to get it ready for the new apartment. Then he flies home, and I'll be driving up to North Carolina (with a 2 day mini-vacation in Asheville yay) for 3-5 weeks, then back down to Alabama (with another night or two in Asheville) to start up fall semester. I won't have time to even breathe. I love it! | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Kekoa Comments: 8186, member since Sun Jul 20, 2003On Mon Feb 27, 2012 02:53 PM
Oh, darnit, I suck at those codes!!
Let's try this again...blog post!
It's been a rough weekend. Le ex-bf got a new girlfriend on Valentine's Day. I'm missing him. Darn hormones. | re: I've got a gypsy soul and I was born for leaving en>fr fr>en By Odessa Comments: 10726, member since Wed Feb 27, 2002On Mon Feb 27, 2012 03:40 PM
Is this the ex-bf you broke up with a billion years ago? Or has there been another one I am missing?
Erin.
