After a three year hiatus due to college and working, I am getting back into dance. Obviously, I have lost a lot of strength and flexibility due to the lack of dance and am now working back up to where I was for the summer.

Every time I point my foot, especially in passe and like positions, my arch cramps really badly. Could I possibly attribute this to lack of strength in my arches? If so, what are some excercises I can do to strengthen my arches and relieve the cramping?

Theraband works a treat. But you might also want to use a ball or something to massage your arches before class. I used to cramp badly, even with strong feet, until I started doing that. It releases the fascia or whatever that stuff is called, and makes it less crampy.

Wow-thank you for the quick reply. I will definitely try using a tennis ball to massage and release the muscles before I start each dance session. Thank you!
