Hi all,

Just wondering if I could get some feedback on what kinds of Primary level participation awards either you or your dancers have treasured or appreciated over the years. Conversely, are there some things you would rather see less often in a Primary goody bag? Thanking you in advance for any and all input! :)

For a number of years we had Zhu Zhu pets and they were a massive hit with the wee ones. They were a fad toy that were popular with the kiddies. Things like colouring books and crayons are great for kids who have to stay for the afternoon to wait for older siblings. Alternately, we have a plaque that is similar to those the big kids win.. I have to say that these must clearly state that the award is for participation only. We went as far as announcing that the award had no connection to points or standard of dancing. You don't want anyone to get confused and think that they are winning a trophy.

Something I don't think belongs in any gift bag is candy or sweets of any sort. Some kids are not allowed them while there are many that don't need more sugar. With things like allergies and diabetes in children, it's best to avoid any food items.

DD's all-time favourite was a Webkinz, which she still loves - my favourite was small-sized suspenders.

In past years, I have given out stuffed animals(The Beanie Baby Scottie dogs were a big hit),coloring books, sticker books, bubble blowing kits and yes, occasionally candy.
Of all of the gifts, probably the best received were the stuffed animals and the bubbles.

Thanks for mentioning. Before zhu zhu pets, we did Webkins for four years. The kids LOVED them. We have a new prize this year. We went to Toys R US and asked what a kid favorite was. I think this year's will be a hit too.

One of our favorites has been a participation medal – they say participant on them and the ribbons are usually different (i.e. striped rather than solid color) than those awarded to the dancers who place. These are especially nice if you have a large group and not all of the dancers place.
