You're never too old to learn anything new!
what sort of dance are you looking at starting? Perhaps if there is a forum on here for it you could pop on there and ask if anyone can advice you on classes, costs etc.
Good luck and let us know how you get on

I agree with above post, you`re never too old to start a new dance.
My daughter Melanie had only ever done freestyle but started ballet and modern 6month ago and is even doing competitions in that and holding her own and she was 16. she enjoys it so much more as well, so give it a go, there are many types of dance out there to enjoy.
Good luck love sue xxx

Hi Sam, I would have sent you a PM but I'm not a full member yet so apologies everyone for the essay!
I think you are never too old to study a new style of dance as a hobby so I guess it depends on how seriously your girls are into their dancing and whether or not they are wanting to do it as a career. Certain styles such as ballet require you to be at a standard where you can audition and be accepted into the upper schools at 16 at the latest to stand any chance of a career in that field.
Have you considered contemporary dance? My daughter is part of the Yorkshire Young Dancers, Centre for Advanced Training (CAT)scheme at Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. These schemes are government funded (free in some cases!) and available all over the country so if you go on their website nationaldancecats you will be able to see if there is one near you. Entry is by audition but if successful they get the opportunity to study contemporary technique, creative choreography and complimentary styles such as ballet and pilates each week. There are intensive weekends and weeks where they have masterclasses with well known choreographers and the opportunity to look at diet, nutrition and injury prevention. There are also 3 trips to the theatre each year to watch contemporary companies included in the fees. As they progress through the scheme they get the opportunity to dance with professional companies and help with applying for full time dance training if they want this. It is a fantastic scheme and I would highly recommend it. The minimum age for application is 13 so your girls are certainly not too old.
I hope they continue to enjoy their dancing whatever they decide to do.

thank you so much for your replies :)

very informative :)

my main worry was how they would adapt/fit in/catch up with them being older but as i have them both close together they can support one another !! there still quite reluctant to try new things, drives me mad as i know there is so much more out there than freestyle :)
i will keep ringing about and putting the options to them and let you know how we get on, thanks again everyone great advice:)

Sam xx
