Irish Eye Shadow Question en>fr fr>en By ID_Addict Comments: 1076, member since Tue Dec 15, 2009On Sun Jan 29, 2012 01:24 PM
My new solo dress is going to be red and gold with some white embroidery on it and I'm not entirely sure what colour eye shadow to do with it. I've always had blue, green or purple dresses and all of those colours look good on my eyes but now I don't know what colour to go with for my new dress because obviously nobody should wear red eye shadow.
I have dark brown hair and dark brown eyes and my skin is quite dark (sort of olive brown). Any ideas about what would be the best eye shadow colour? 11 Replies to Eye Shadow Question |

Smoky Eye with a little splash of gold just under the brow bone??
Never red eye shadow!! (but I know you knew that already!!)
We've gone for matching red lips before now, you just need to get a good stay-put lipstick!! |

I have a red dress and go for the smokey look with bright red lipstick. I like it. We just brought silver and black eyeshadows and use that.
Mac do a really nice lipstick. We went to our local Mac counter and asked them which was their brightest red lipstick.

^Close-up red eyeshadow works, but on stage (which is where Irish Dancers invariably end up LOL) it looks as if you've been crying your eyes out.
I second (third, fourth?) the suggestion of smokey eyes and red lipstick. |

With my red and black dress I always did a smokey eye with just a touch of purple (one that was more towards the red tones than blue) and red lips.
You can never go wrong with neutrals or a simple gray smokey eye. |

I agree with what everyone has been saying, a dark eye with some gold accents would be gorgeous with your skin tone, especially if you did go for a red lip.
I've recently fallen in love with Dragon Girl velvet matte lip pencil by Nars. It goes on smoothly and stays put all day. Sephora carries all of them and they're always so helpful there with letting customers try things on.
Mac has a very nice black called Carbon that you can layer to get however light or dark as you'd like. I'm also a fan of the Smashbox shimmer black, but that one can be a little messy to get on.
Good luck! |

Adding some brown to your smokey eye may really help pull it together. |

My dress is red and black, and I do a light grey smokey eye with silver glitter on the lid and dark winged eyeliner, with bright red lips! (I really like makeup:P)
If you're looking for a good, affordable lipstick that stays put I HIGHLY recommend Maybelline 24 Hour Color in Cherry. It literally will not come off, no matter how much you eat, drink, talk, or rub your lips. No lip liner needed, and it has a double end- one with color, one with a glossy chapstick type thing to put over. |

Given that the dress is mainly warm tones (red and gold), I'd suggest doing a smoky eye but in warmer tones - you can still use a bit of black but I'd blend it with warm browns & golden tones rather than silver and grey. |
