Stretching So, my fear of Therabands IS irrational, right? en>fr fr>en By Danser42 Comments: 19, member since Sat Sep 25, 2010On Sun Jan 29, 2012 10:40 PM
Hi.
I've been thinking about getting a Theraband to try, as they tell me they're very useful, and I can see how it could be beneficial.
The one thing that's stopping me though, is a fear that it might snap. I know that it's probably a stupid thing to worry about, but the fact is that it might not be, and I simply don't know myself, which is why I'm asking you guys.
So to people who have used Therabands before, how easily do they snap, and when they do, how much does it hurt? I can handle it making my arm or leg or whatever sting for a while, but do they ever actually do any damage? I guess the thing that frightens me is the possibility of it breaking and springing back and hitting me in the eye. Does this happen often? Because that once happened to me with a violin string and I remember it hurt quite a lot
Thanks for (hopefully!) allaying my fears 3 Replies to So, my fear of Therabands IS irrational, right? |

While I understand your fear, it's really not necessary. As long as you make sure you keep your theraband out of the sun, and don't pull it too tight you'll be fine. I haven't had any problems with any of mine, and have been using them for 3+ years. |

I have never had a theraband snap on me. I have had a resistance band (you know, the rope looking ones with handles) snap several times at the gym since they are used by everyone and get worn out. The only then that happened when it snapped is that it fell down on the floor. I don't know how you could ever be using it so that it would snap and come back at your face. If you are using them on your feet then if it snaps it will sling away from your body. Just imagine if you were using it and then let go with one or both of your hands, it would go away from you. Try to think about it logically for a minute, Therabands are wide and thick, I could see it tearing far before it would ever snap. Think about some nylons or tights, if you were to stretch it would it ever just fully break in half? No, it would start to tear first. If by some weird act of nature it snaps you are in no danger even if you fling it wildly and it hit you, I can't imagine it even hurting that bad. |

Okay, good, so they're not likely to snap without warning and/or do serious injury. Thanks for that, I was just really paranoid. Yeah, using resistance bands make me cringe as well haha, which is why I thought the Therabands might be the same.
I think I'll be able to use it in confidence now. Thanks very much, both of you |
