Dear dance.net people,

I am extremely interested in teaching ballet and other dance genres abroad once I graduate from RAD. I am just wondering if anybody else has done this or has experiences similar (like getting a job abroad). What English speaking countries can you suggest / recommend and what experiences do you have?

Also would I have to secure a job before I could get a visa etc? Any websites you can suggest regarding these sorts of subjects would be helpful also.

Thanks guys,

Are you planning on really living there for longer than I highly recommend to speak to some professionel coach.
Different countries are very different with working visa etc. If you do RAD I don't think work is the main issue. RAD is international. But you should think about flat/house, money (for at least six months of living, without having work), language (if you going abroad for english speaking countries also not a problem)

I am kind of interested in going abbroad (never done it by myself for longer!) and saw many documentries etc. about that topic.

Hope that was a little help ;)

There used to be a program where people from certain countries could work in Canada for a year... I'm not too sure if this is in place anymore...

Found it!

www.international.gc.ca . . .

Found it and Great Britan is on this list.

If you're moving to Canada then it depends on you're nationality as to how long that will take and what avenues are best for you.

We moved here on the Provincial Nominee Program. That is the Government of Alberta was our nominee because my husband had an offer of a job from a firm that had proved to them that they needed to source workers from outside of the country. You then get a work permit and are able to move straight away and start the permanent residence paperwork once you've been in the country a year. This is a fast track way of getting into the country and it will only take about three years to get permanent residence. It can take a lot longer!

First of all you need to decide how long you're looking at staying here for.

Here are a couple of links that might help

www.cic.gc.ca . . .

www.albertacanada.com . . .

Having done all of this fairly recently I know about one of the programs quite well and I have friends who have used the skilled workers program.

The other option is come in as a live in nanny and after about 18 months and of course with the correct paperwork completed and in your hit sticky mitt you're able to go and do what you want. I have Canadian friends who know all about this one as they have a live in nanny who they brought into the country themselves on this scheme.

There are many ways to get into Canada, they are all long winded and you will need to help of someone who knows how to work the system, dot all the legal i's and cross all of the t's.

There are also many dance schools, near me anyway, crying out for good, qualified, staff. It's just that they stop teaching at the end of April and they don't start again until September, it treated just like a sports season.

Thank you everyone for your assistance, all very helpful indeed.

And hummingbird I had no idea they went from September to April with their dancing that is certainly something to be aware of!

I will continue to look into it and thanks for the links! :)

Hey,

haven't been here in two days :)

Well, professional coach...I don't know how to get one, but some people who want to go abbroad to work or even to life forever hire people who plan with them (what kind of visa do you need, how much money do you need for travel, package, rent, what kind of salary is realitic for a newbie, where to go for certificates etc.)

That may be people who already gone abbroad.

This will probably vary by school. I live in Southern Ontario and our dance school runs from September until the mid-late June, then again for 4 weeks from mid-July to mid-August. They follow the school breaks.
