Dang, I really like Feis America. Never really a fan of IDM. That one always seemed geared for the middle school age child. I was just going to renew my subscription to Feis America. Guess I can use the money for something else now. :(

^ditto. Although I got a subscription for Christmas, so I guess I'll be getting a year of IDM instead. I liked there adult friendly feis review they would do from time to time a lot. I suppose that will still be around in their blog though right?

Dd and I will really miss Feis America. Kathleen O'Reilly Wild did a fabulous job with this magazine. It was so much more enjoyable than IDM. It's been fun to see and read about people we know. Dd got a kick out of seeing her photo in there a couple of times. I've never liked IDM as I find the typos, spelling errors and poor grammar very distracting. Hornpipe magazine was absorbed into Feis America, and now Feis America folds. I guess it's pretty hard to make it as an Irish dance magazine.

Lame. Guess someone at IDM corporate got a little scared at having some competition, eh?

For the adult Irish dancer, Irishcentral.com has a nice blog by Christy Dorrity that I follow that posts periodic helpful articles, including a list at the beginning of each month of adult-feisanna going on. Here's the latest post:

Yes, I don't know many print media outlets that are in the black. I was laid off from my local newspaper nearly two years ago due to decreased ad sales.

I am now back as a freelance, contract journalist.

The potential advertiser market for Irish dance publications makes it difficult to generate enough money each month to cover the expenses and for a magazine, those expenses can be very high.
