Algy Costumes--not impressed en>fr fr>en

Hi Everyone:

I ordered several Algy ballet costumes for solo pieces and just received them. I'm not impressed.

First costume had one sleeve sewn on upside down. The sleeve was a thin elastic with gathered tulle. Luckily, I decided the solo worked better without them, so will just cut them off. I'm using the detached puff sleeves instead.

The other costume was a tutu for a 14 year old. It will have to be tacked into a pancake as it is really fluffy and sticks straight up in the back. It is also salmon pink not hot pink as I thought it would be from the photo.

We ordered a few bits from Algy last year and the pancake tutu's were odd to say the least, was it the one with the shoulders and the band style hat that you had? The one we got in pink was the bright neon pink but as I said it was last year.

The best cheap pancake tutu's I've seen have been the Revolution ones, we ordered some a couple of years ago, this one

www.revolutiondance.com . . .

and this one

www.revolutiondance.com . . .

They were beautiful, they looked like real pancake tutus when they were on stage.

That's ashame b/c Algy's costumes are so much higher than the other companies.

Yes, the Snow Revolution costume is gorgeous in person and onstage. We used it a few years ago and it was the parents' favorite costume.

I love Revolution, I just wish they had more of a variety.

I like Revolution as well, but as mentioned, they don't have as much variety in choices and seem to continue using the same costumes for years.

The algy tutu was village dancers. I choose it because I'm using a piece of music from Coppelia and needed a peasant style. In the photo you cannot tell the tutu is fluffy.

I just wish Algy was a little more specific with color choices. A Salmon pink is not what I would have choosen. The student chose the color, so she has to live with it.

Does anyone have any advice on how to tack a tutu. I'm not a seamstress, but I would like to pass the info. on to the Mom.

Thank you!

If you can get a hold of a tag gun they use in retail with the short plastic tags, those work wonders. It's that little piece of plastic string that goes through the garment and the tag. www.amazon.com . . .

The short ones work great at attaching layers and layers of tulle or net together without sewing.

That is a shame because they used to be very good costumes. Lack of quality control. It's sad.

Tag gun. Great idea, I will look for one. Does anyone have advice on tacking the overskirt down as well. It is a chiffon material and won't stay in place.

We have had some costumes come in from Algy and A Wish Come True - suprised at the quality - or should I say lack of. We also had costumes from Kelle - the work is way better. Very dissapointed in the other two - especially since the cost of the costumes are almost identical to Kelle. Who uses foil lycra anymore....oops - some places do.

The costume ended up in the hands of an experienced seamstress. She has to add layers of ruffle to the tutu in order for it to pancake properly when being tacked.

I don't get to see it until a week before competition. I'm crossing my fingers, that it will look decent.
