The buffalo step was popularized in the 1880s by Pat Rooney. The name “Buffalo” probably relates to the fact that the Tiller Girls performed the step at Shea’s Buffalo Theater, which was located in Buffalo, New York. The step is also called the “Shuffle Off to Buffalo.” Two other steps that were named after a city are the “Cincinnati” and the “Charleston.”
