Hey everyone. I need some help on deciding which vitamins and suppliments to take. I am 18 years old, and I need to lose around 15 pounds realistically, college student and I am tired. I actually tend to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night but I still don't feel energized. I am also hoping to lose some weight as well. Could anyone recommend what I should be taking?
Thanks! 2 Replies to Need advice on which vitamins/supplements to take |

Almost every woman can benefit from adding a good quality multi-vitamin into their daily diet. It will help you to get the vitamins and minerals you may not be getting from your food on a daily basis. Most female multi-vitamins have a bit of iron in them as well which is great for building iron stores that are lost through menstruation. If you live in an area far away from the equator (ie: not very sunny) there is a pretty good chance you are Vitamin D deficient. My boyfriend and I both take Vitamin D supplements because we live in rainy Victoria, BC.
You should check with your GP if you are going to be adding lots of new vitamins to your diet, though.
In terms of you being so tired, that could be due to a lot of things. 7 hours of sleep isn't enough for an 18 year old, in my opinion. Your body and brain still require more sleep in order for them to develop properly. Being overweight can also cause lethargy. I'd start small by trying to add in a good walk outdoors each day.
Also, height and weight posts aren't allowed here...that will get removed. |

Vitamins wont typically cause weight loss. For your average woman, a well rounded multi-vitamin is plenty. If you are especially tired or suffer from any health ailments, there are some specific things that can help.
-Iron is great for fatigue as many women have low iron stores and get anemic. Be careful with dosage and read labels.
-Many people are deficient in Vitamin D, so taking 1000IU can be helpful and has also been shown to reduce your risk of developing certain cancers and auto-immune conditions.
-Fish oil is an amazing anti-inflammatory if you suffer from any joint pain or inflammatory conditions.
-A Vitamin B complex can be great for managing stress, fatigue, and more.
-I take a Cal-Mag combo to keep my bones healthy and to help with the effectiveness of other vitamins.
I suggest you just get a general high-quality multi-vitamin and that should be plenty. If you go to a store that sells vitamins (Whole Foods, GNC, Elephant Pharmacy etc) they have staff that can help you and also, everything is labeled. If you want something for stomach issues, it's under the big 'digestion' sign. |
