Irish - Adult Dancers Finding a new school en>fr fr>en By Oboemeg Comments: 17, member since Mon Nov 28, 2011On Thu Feb 02, 2012 09:44 AM
I appreciate the suggestions you had for a school in SW Virginia so I'm going to lean on you again. I just started dancing back in September at 28 and my school is small and non-competitive. I'm moving back to the East coast and am struggling to find a school where I can attend any classes; they're so far away/career. I've contacted a couple of schools and gotten no response back- is this normal? I realize the AI's are coming up but it makes me even less confident in my chances of finding a school at all, much less one that's a good fit. I'll go so far as to say that I think that I'd like to compete.
What have you found in moving schools? If you've had to commute have you found teachers willing to allow you into non-adult classes so you can attend? I'm comfortable with 2-5 steps in all the softshoe dances and am working on a treble reel set, 2 treble jig steps and St. Patrick's day in hardshoe. I'm still working on all the standard issues; turn out, crossing and carriage.
TIA for your help- I know this will work out, because I'm going to keep dancing, but I need some words of wisdom I can hold tight to when I'm not so certain. 2 Replies to Finding a new school |

I am part of a school in Midlothian, VA that offers Irish dance and is a member of NAIDF (www.naidf.com). We welcome adults at all levels and we have adults who take classes with the teenagers or children - we're happy to work with you! Don't know if you'd consider driving here from your location (are you in Roanoke or Lynchburg or further west?), but just putting that out there in case you're close enough to make it worth your while. Feel free to email me at aleisemm at yahoo dot com for more info! Good luck! |
