Ever wonder what is meant when Dance Halls and Ballrooms advertise that they have "Dance Hosts Available"?
And What is a "Dance Host" anyway?
Dance hosts are usually, mature gentlemen 50-60-or 70yrs young. They are often times retired dance teachers who really miss dancing but don't want to teach anymore or guys who have had a lot of lessons and are usually single or widowed themselves. These Gentlemen commonly state, that they find hosting to be a nice way to meet eligible single women in a tastefull setting without having to frequent bars or clubs. They realize that most mature single women are not comfortable in bars or clubs to start with but will frequent Ballrooms.
Ballrooms hire these Gentlemen, usually for a modest fee, to come in and make sure that All of the ladies attending are afforded the opportunity to get up and dance. The Hosts make the rounds as many times as they can throughout the evening trying to dance with everyone. No Wall Flowers Allowed!
Mixers are run pretty often to help the hosts out as there are rarely enough host to be "even up". The hosts are screened well to make sure that they up to date on the social graces (and Yes! that is still important) and current in at least the 6 major dances,
It's a win win situation for the Hosts who enjoy thier job and the Ladies who get to dance the night away even if she doesn't yet have a steady partner of her own.
To those mature single ladies who would like to get out and dance, check your local listings of Ballrooms and Dance Halls to see if they offer Dance Hosts. You will meet nice people and have a great time! |
