Strengthening How to get a Switch Leap or a split leap? en>fr fr>en By FrozenAKDancer Comments: 11, member since Thu Nov 03, 2011On Thu Feb 02, 2012 10:31 AM
I know that I'm flexible enough to do a split leap but I can never get my legs very far off the ground. I think it's a muscle strength issue, but I don't know how to strengthen whatever muscles I need to be using. Any good advice for actually being able to get my legs off the ground? It usually feels like I'm going to pull a muscle when I attempt it. The only place I can do them is on a trampoline. Thanks! 1 Replies to How to get a Switch Leap or a split leap? |

For switch leaps especially, a huge part is getting high enough off the ground to have enough time to hit it. Your abs are super important! If they aren't engaged then your upper body will move too much and it'll take more effort overall. Just really focus on your plie & think about springing up. Once your feet leave the ground, try to straighten your legs/point your feet as much as you can while getting to that split or while switching. Also, I think sometimes having an oversplit makes 180 degree in the air easier to reach. The first time I did a switch leap correctly I wasn't even thinking about it. That probably sounds crazy, but it just happened. Just keep stretching and work on your core and quads - you'll get it! |
