Sorry I haven't posted here in months but since 26 weeks iv been in and out of hospital due to my waters leaking, and the tragedy I lost my mum to cancer in my 36th week of pregnancy. I'm coping well as can be expected and enjoying being a mummy, with loads of family support, so here is my birth story, which isn't for the faint hearted and some pictures for you to gush over .
Pic1: me 39 weeks pregnant
pic2: Harvey just born
pic3: Me and my son
pic4: Proud daddy and my dad holding him just after he was born
pic5: my cutie pie.
Birth story:
I went in for my induction on last Saturday which was my due date at 10am with my sis in law as we were told inductions can take a long time so hubby decided to meet up after work.
I had a pessary of pitocin at 11.20am, and instantly had period pain like spasms which eventually got stronger and from around 1pm I was contracting.
I was put on the CTG in the afternoon and was contracting 2mins apart. Up till this point I was doing well having a laugh and a joke with sis in law to pass the time. I was given co codamol for the pain and that is at this point. I was eating and drinking etc, and I couldn't stay on the bed I needed to move around all the time. at 7pm I was taken to labour and delivery to start the drip to speed up my contractions. This is where I was given gas and air (brilliant stuff in early stages) and was hooked up to a monitor as I needed constant monitoring due to my suspected ruptured membranes at 26 weeks. The team who were looking after me decided beings I was contracting regularly to delay the drip and to break my waters, OH MY THAT WAS PAINFUL I thought I was going to rip of the gas and air off the wall!. My husband came in just after they did that. My sis in law was saying to him apparently it looked like torture and she has had 3 kids! This happened around 8.20ish pm.
They then decided as I was wasn't progressing quick enough that they were going to put the drip up to speed up contractions, but as I was having what they call double contractions- one after another before my break in between, and that the baby was back to back to have an epidural, I was unsure as I didn't want to wimp out of the pain so early still being 2-3cm dilated, but in the end after being told the process I had the epidural at around 12am.
OMG the best thing ever the epidural is!. I felt a bit of pain/pressure every contraction due to baby being back to back but nothing else. I had one top up, so I was contracting for another two hours. They got the drip up from 1 mg to 12mg and that is when things started to go wrong.
My baby's heartbeat dropped at every contraction to 40bpm and they stopped the drip twice to see if things would improve. His heartbeat would go back up every time the drip stopped but the baby couldn't handle the contractions, so at around 3am it was decided that I would have a emergency cat 2 section now as I have the epidural set up and all I needed was topping up for it. At this point I scribbled my signature and was glad to get him out firstly because I was worried about my baby and secondly I was in labour for around 14 hours with little progression and as my contractions were induced the pain was more intense!. I was whisked off for a section and my husband met me in the theatre. For a emergency section, it was a relatively positive experience as all the staff that were looking after me in labour ward were in there so I had a relationship built up with them. The anaesthetist was amazing she was the one who administered my epidural at the beginning and she talked me through the operation and took my mind of things, so she was amazing. Finally at 4.08am
Harvey-Douglas was born, weighing 7lb 14oz, crying his little heart out!. He was a brave boy when he received his vitamin k injection no crying at all!
I have now found out that the reason why I had SPD was due to him being back to back, also my uterus was stretched so much that the operation took longer to sew me back up. apparently I had loads of waters which meant although I probably did have a leak at 26 weeks but due to amount fluid I managed to carry him to term!.
I stayed in hospital for 5 days in total and came home weds. BTW sections are not the easy way out! the pain afterwards just wow!. Its my first ever operation so its all new to me. Recovery is taking its time, no matter how diligent you are with cleaning the wound I still catch a nasty infection. On Monday I have to go and get bloods and swabs done .
Sorry for long post. Harvey is our little ray of sunshine in our time of upset, I miss my mum dearly and she really wanted to see him, unfortunately this was not the case. I am loving being a mum but I wish I could call my mum and ask her the questions only your mum would know the answer to. Anyway baby Harvey now weighs 9lb 3oz, he's a little chunk growing healthy which is good.

Oh gosh, I am so sorry you lost your mother so close to becoming one yourself. I can't even imagine what an emotional rollercoaster the last few weeks must have been.
Your new little person is very cute, and I hope that he will help you heal. All the best to you, your husband and little Harvey for the future
Erin.
