Does any one else get more nervous than their kids at comp? en>fr fr>en

Hi!

I'm looking forward to Sunday & another comp, but........
I always get really nervous for her until she gets a recall!

It's just got even worse, because she's moved up to champs & it's such a hard section. I know she's happy if she feels that she's danced her best, but I'm also very aware that she can't wait to do her first solo spot.

Last week wasn't too bad, (1st time in Champs) as we were at the Olympic qualifiers & realistically we both knew the standard would be sky high, so there were no expectations.

This week, the comp will be a good standard, but I know she'll be busting a gut to make the final. She won't be worried where she comes, as long as she gets to do her dance on. If she feels she danced the best she could, but doesn't make the final,or even get a recall, she'll be quite happy. It's when she comes off the floor & says she could have done better that she gets devastated.

If she gets a recall, it's a second chance, but until then my insides are turning upside down!

Does any one else struggle?

Jo x

ps. It's not just about her moving up to Champs. So the nerves are even worse this week, because she's just moved up, but the real point of the post is the fact that I suffered terrible nerves for her from her 1st comp last year in beginners. I never got any better, no matter how many comps we went to, or what section she danced in.
That 1st recall was always such a relief, but I still can't eat a thing until she's finished dancing in her solo section. Even several recalls on, I still get butterflies for her and always hope she'll get to dance another round!
I'm always proud of her. So many times when she's cross with herself, because she thinks she hasn't danced well, I'll have thought that she did fantastic.
Sometimes, I even struggle in the afternoon when she's doing slow dance, but by then I guess I'm getting too tired to worry as much!

How do you cope?

I'm the same :( I get so nervous I feel ill. My daughter is not bothered she just loves it, but I can't keep still or eat until after her solo.
My little one has just reached champs and has her first comp in champs next week in solo and slow. so i'm scared i'm going to faint lol. Hopefully now she doesn't have to worry about losing lives I can just enjoy watching her dance.... so glad millie has loads of confidence xxx unlike her mum whos useless ;)

My daughter dances u10 beginners and that is a massive section so when about 30+ kids pile onto the floor (45 kids in a recent comp), my heart literally drops out of my chest and i start shaking with nerves. luckily, as it is a big section, they do the recalls quite quickly so i don't have long to wait which is just aswell lol. i think it adds to the buzz though and the relief and rush you get when your child makes the final is out of this world.

yep Kate will have been competing 4 years in May and I get butterflies everytime she dances, she always laughs at me and says she doesn't need to get nervous because I do it all for her. Kate first solo spot in champs was terrible, I could see her little legs shaking and I felt sick it was horrendous luckily it went ok and she has done fab ever since, but I still feel ill at recall times, even for her dance partner chloe so I get double trouble. I think when that stops I would have had enough seeing her dance and enjoy it sooooo much make it all worth while and i still get a lump in my throat when I watch her slow..... Its what being a dance mom is all about isn't it????

Hi Jo
I suffer terrible with nerves too, when I watch my son dance, where I don't sleep before a comp, bite all my nails off, constantly on the loo and when he dances I don't breathe until he finishes. Harry is usually cool as a cucumber, which is good. I do love to watch him dance though and I am dreading the day he doesn't want to do it anymore. I wish I had some advice of how to deal with it but I don't.Its a fantastic hobby that both I and my son enjoy and we have a wonderful relationship because of it. Good luck to you and your daughter at future events

No matter what comp it is... When it comes to my sister's section of recalls, semi and finals I always feel so sick to my stomach. Even when I know she will probably have got in you just never know! She's calm about it. If she gets in great, if she doesn't never mind. But I'm awful haha!

Chloe has done amazing though. Making every single final since she went up to U16's last December. Touch wood she carries on!

It just doesn't do any good for my nerves!! ;)

xxxx
