I had a mother (also a photographer) last year films make DVDs of the recital last. She did an okay job and she charged $25 per DVD. This was a profit went all to her. The teacher did get a DVD and she brought me in several pictures for the studio, but I did not get a cut on it. Should I be getting a percentage? I want to be fair to her, yet I felt a bit short changed last year, as I had to spend time collecting her money, making sure I was at the studio to pick up the DVD ect.

Also, should I put this in writing/contract? Is it the norn that I don't get to profit from this? Thanks

You ask her what she wants for each DVD, and you put some profit on it for you. Make sure this mother knows you will do this this year, or
A/ she might have told other parents her price before she gets the message you will charge parents a different price.
B/ she might badmouth you for doing this.
Yes, make a contract. It should include that the mother is not allowed to sell directly to others. Don't be surprised if she still does. The contract should also include that the copyright is yours.

Go for a professional. You skip so many emotional personal problems with a pro.
Thank the mother a lot for what she did, and tell her you will ask a pro this time because 'he offers more technical options'.

Get a contract. You take the orders and the payment, then give her the money she asks for and you keep the profit. That is how I did it. Our videographer set his price, I took the orders, at the studio, then gave him one check.

Also, parents were emailed when they came in and could pick them up when we were open. I did not come in to give them out, at any specific time. They had to sign them out. If they had issues with the DVD, they had to contact him, directly.
