Your age (you can tell us "young", "teen", or adult" if you aren't comfortable posting the number), and dance level will help us give you an idea of what to ask and what would be appropriate. :) And congrats, btw!

I have a questionaire I use to help dancers choose design elements which accentuate their strengths and play down their weaknesses. Your dressmaker should be able to help you make the proper selections, too. Why not consult with her, since she will be seeing you in person.

As a dressmaker, I'm not sure it would be professionally correct of me to insert myself into her business. I'm sure you two (or you three, if your TC is part of the process) will come up with a design which is perfect.

Please remember to post a photo once you receive your new dress.

Wishing you a lot of success and happiness in your dress.

I would have a look at photos on Feis Photographers websites or photos on the commentary's from local Feis's and Majors to get an idea of the styles out there. Then maybe you could print off a few styles that you like to show the dressmaker. There are so many choices to be made, even down to the style of embroidery or the style of knotwork, so I think it helps if you do have photos to help you explain your ideas for the dress. You can also get an idea to the massive range of skirts currently in style at the moment, to see which ones you like. Pleated and ruffles seem to be quite popular at the moment.

As for the colours, it probably depends on your colouring. I would ask the dressmaker and your teacher about what colours suit you the best. I'm a little biased towards Red and Black as my dress is those colours. But like I say, it depends on what colours suit you and the design of the rest of the dress.

Claire.

Another thing to think about is the current colours in your age group. If loads of girls are wearing red and black (or whatever) you don't want to have the same colour scheme. You want to stand out.

the lighter weight skirts are in fashion at the moment and they are better to dance in than a stiff skirt. You could go for a layered skirt or pleats? recently skirts dont have much detail on and are sometimes just a plain colour with diamontes on
