Without naming names, here's the story;

My husband works for a first tier automotive supplier. The overly simplified version of his job is this; there's a computer in every car that tells it what to do. My husband is the guy that tells that computer what to do. His company works closely with many major companies, both in the automotive industry and out.

One company in particular, that we'll say is a high end automotive company, calls his place of work two Fridays ago. "We need Jim in our offices, Monday morning, we want him for two weeks, and we'll pay whatever it takes to make it happen."

Jim's company writes up a pretty absurd price quote, and sends it off. This high end automotive company happily cuts a check for Jim's services, and he's on the first flight out on Monday. Scheduled to come back Thursday.

The whole week he's there, conversation alternates between how amazing/wonderful/talented/fantastic Jim is, and how they're going to need him longer. They bump his flight back to Saturday morning so that he can stay all day Friday as well. Friday, this company calls back to Jim's job, and says they want him for another week.

AND they say that they want him for at least a week in March.

They also throw in the offer that for a portion of the time while he's there in March, they'll fly out his family, so that they can see the town and all of that.

Now, the optimistic side of my brain is like "Free trip? Shut my mouth, you bet I'm in!"

The cynical side of my brain is going "Ok, they've got nothing to gain from flying me and James in, unless they're planning to try to woo us to get us to move there, because what do they care about what me and a five year old think of their town?!"

So I'm definetly going, that part is for sure, but uh...I think that they're getting the ball rolling to make a move to offer Jim a job. Isn't that the way it kind of reads?

And Jim's company does station people on sites - they've got some places that they do business with that they have to send people out to so often, that it just got more cost effective to leave them there. But that's really only in our state, they've never done that out of state that I know of.

So Jim's boss and I both think that this high end automotive company is rolling the ball on either offering Jim a job, or requesting that Jim be stationed there full time. Jim can't imagine why on earth we think such a thing.

Thoughts?

(I didn't name either company because on the off hand chance someone from either company see this, I don't want to wreck his potential chances, haha...)

ETA; since I forgot...when Jim walked in to work yesterday, the first thing his boss said to him was "So did they offer you a job yet?" When I said basically the same thing, Jim was like "Seriously, why does everyone think that that's going to happen?!" Heh...

Yes. They are rolling the dice on offering him a job.

I think he's going to get a massive surprise and you're going to be stood there saying "Told ya so!"

It sounds like they are going to offer him a job.

I suggest writing a note about this job offer and hiding it somewhere in the house. That way, when he gets the job you can be like " Go check in the third drawer of the closet in the bedroom".....Note says " Honey, I am super proud of you" or something like that LOL. You will be a genius!

Edited by Theresa (28613) on 2012-02-07 06:26:15 place isn't a competition. I had my mind on a different post, lol...
I've mentioned this in person to a couple people, and they all had the same reaction - "Do you want to live there?!"

I don't. Not even a tiny bit. It's pretty far from any family. However - make me an offer I can't refuse, you know? My mom and dad were born in Michigan and Indiana respectively - they live in Arkansas now. Neither of them every dreamt of living in Arkansas. Thanks to a series of offers they couldn't refuse, that's where they ended up. So who's to say we won't be the same way? So I don't want to live where this place is, but for the right dollar amount, I'll pack up the car, hah...

I think that a job offer seems pretty likely.
