Oh gosh I had no idea it is being made into a movie. All I know is that I am seeing something about Fifty Shades of Grey EVERYWHERE! Whenever I look at a bestsellers list, in the newspaper... They were even talking about it on Chelsea Lately last night. It is like the universe is trying to force me to read these books! I just don't think I can handle another poorly written book right now.

blah, it was an entertaining trashy romance novel, but it would make a really mediocre movie.

Did anyone see the video of Ellen Degeneres reading for the audiobook? that was funny.

I like trashy romance novels, but they are not nearly as fun if you actually take them seriously. Half the fun is laughing at the bad writing, cheesy dialogue, and unrealistic sex. Hence why it would be lame as a movie. Actually, if they made the movie like the twilight fanfic the book originally was, it would be kind of funny, especially if they used the same cast.

And "no real climax" LOL! nope, there really wasn't, just alot of unlikely fictional ones!

There was a lady of about my mother's age on Wednesday eating dinner in the steakhouse lounge in which I work, and she was totally reading this on her iPad. I giggled.

I haven't heard much about this book, apart from its scandalousness, and wasn't aware it was linked to Twilight. God, what is the world coming to.

I'm active in the kink community right now and everyone hates this book. It's apparently not kinky... like, at all. Which makes sense... if you want erotica, read - oh, IDK, maybe - erotica!

I have to say, I turn to Janet Evanovich for my trashy novels, personally. Though I'm not in a trashy novel phase right now... I'm reading Moby-Dick. (Heh, heh... dick.)

Here is a video of President Obama on the View (why??) being quizzed on 50 Shades of Grey.

I just finished the first one.
There was a LOT of repetition. She used certain phrases so many times, like 'staring into grey eyes' and 'finding his release' ... and if I hear the words inner goddess one more time, I just might through the book across the room. She would play on the same senses. Like the first 5 times they had sex, Christian kept saying how good she smells...

Despite the awful writing, was really fascinated by his character and why he is the way he is... which is why I've ordered the other 2... so that I can find out more!

Definitely wasn't as hard core as I imagined.

I haven't read the book, but I don't understand why people are acting as if this is the first erotica book ever made. I've been reading romance novels, erotica, and otherwise sexually explicit fiction since high school (heh)... and I can almost guarantee my favorite authors in those genres are doing it a heck of a lot better than Ms. James. Ah well, such is the way of the publishing business. If anything I'm sure the popularity of this book is bringing new life to this segment of the literary community.

Not that I really have the time, but I don't plan on reading Fifty Shades of Grey and Co. anytime soon.

I read it and now I'm on Fifty Shades Darker.

It wasn't as kinky as I was led to believe it was. I was expecting much more. Nothing surprised me.

Badly written and obviously related to Twilight. I HATE Ana.

I had no idea this was a trilogy. I got the second one from the library a couple of weeks ago. Do you have to have read the first one first? I don't really get why she sometimes calls him Fifty.

I have to return it on Saturday, and I doubt I'll get much further into it. Ana is a bit too droopy for me (rather like Bella, in fact).

She calls him Fifty because he called himself "fifty shades of F***ed-up."

Eh, I don't know maybe. Depends on if you are reading it for the plot or glossing over it for the sexy parts.

I'm about to start the third one now.

I finished all three over the course of a week. They're trashy romance novels, through and through, so I just ignored/laughed at the eye-rolling parts. It was very entertaining, but I'm no literary critic.

If anyone other than Alexander Skarsgard plays Christian, I'm not sure if I can watch the movie. He is perfect.

But damn, it was a good read.

I am at the point where if he rips into another foil packet I'll scream.

I want to read Bared to Me after this one, looking for a free download as we speak... I don't know if the library has this one or not. I got a free pdf of 50 shades...

It's going to make for a craptastic movie.

Oh and does anyone else randomly read Christian as having a British accent? or is it just me?

I def wouldn't mind spending a few days with him though.

I wasn't going to read this, but after looking at some of the reviews on Amazon, I HAVE to. She really says things like, "Jeez," and, "Oh crap"?? Comedic gold. I can't wait. :)

I remember finding a review back when people first started going nuts over it and I had no idea what it was.

I believe one of the phrases used was "S&M so tame that it breaks the Trades Descriptions Act", or something very similar anyway...

It was actually pretty funny. But yeah, I guess the sex is a bit tame. It's weird that sex scenes in non-pornographic books (Tranquility, Like Water for Chocolate, Let Me In) were a lot more graphic and explicit. And yes, the book shows what Ana is thinking during sex, but she's not very eloquent. If you're looking to read some beautiful thoughts during sex, try The Name of the Rose. Maybe the people who enjoyed were the only ones who could actually indulge in it.

I tried reading it because it had a funny title, but it was boring, and I've got so many other things to read that I don't have time to waste. I've got to read the weather report, the lips of the person across the room, a classmate's mind, and my own handwriting. I've got to read my major and graduate. I've got to re-read Ender's Game twelve more times, and maybe some tabloids after that. And in Hebrew, too. Because I don't speak Hebrew, that's why.

My friend and I described it as:

A train wreck.

You know it's horribly written, but you just can't look away.
