As a professional choreographer, teacher, and dancer, Adam Cates’ career has taken him across North America, Europe, and the Caribbean working in theatre, opera, television, casinos, cruise ships, and Walt Disney World. In New York City, Adam assisted director/choreographer Kathleen Marshall on the Tony winning Broadway revival of Anything Goes and Tommy Tune on the US national tour of Doctor Dolittle; choreographed Off-Broadway productions of The Brain From Planet X and Inside Cherry Pitz; and assisted on Antony & Cleopatra. He was an associate choreographer for the TV show 90210 and regional theatres such as Goodspeed Opera House, Papermill Playhouse, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Kansas City Starlight, Casa Mañana, Theater of the Stars, and Stiletto Entertainment among others. Credits as a director or choreographer include Big River, Annie, Hair, South Pacific, Peter Pan, High School Musical, Snoopy!!!, Jesus Christ Superstar, and The First Nudie Musical. He has worked with and coached stars including Shirley Jones, Tommy Tune, Sutton Foster, Joel Grey, Richard Kind, and Shanae Grimes. As a teacher, Adam is on faculty with Dancers Inc. national convention and Rosie O’Donnell’s Theater Kids in New York, and has taught for Broadway Dance Center, Dance Masters of America, The Rock School Jazz Intensive, World Dance Challenge, and universities and dance studios across the US and Canada.
