I am a 16 year old ballet dancer. Until about 4 years ago, I lived in sunny Los Angeles, California; I took all types of dance, ballet, acrobatics, hip hop, lyrical, and did other sports such as gymnastics, cheerleading, soccer, and ice skating. Four years ago, my family decided that they wanted to move into our then-vacation house in Turkey. When I moved here, I could not continue dance, and lost 4 years of my ballet training. Now, I just turned 16, and started ballet up again at a prestigious, professional ballet school, taking pre-prep, prep 1, prep 2, first and second year, which all adds up to about 17 hours a week, not including watching the older years' lessons, at-home conditioning, or stretching. I am eager to learn as much more as I can about ballet, as soon as I can, as I would like to be accepted into NYCB, ABT, or PNB. I realize that this is a very hard goal, especially after losing those 4 years, but it is my absolute dream and ballet is my passion. I am not yet on pointe, and it makes me extremely jealous that my friends at ballet who are my age are on pointe with beautiful lines. I have been told by my teachers that I am a fast learner and that I apply my corrections well, and that I have been a very nice student to work with. Currently, I am working towards the goal of going on pointe, and being one of the most flexible in the studio, since where I live there aren't many ballet-dancers, or anyone who takes it as seriously as they should in the studio. Personally, I don't think that they should accept students out of the whim; they should accept students based on discipline and how well they work, instead of slacking off in class and distracting others, all while wasting their time.
