Anton married Charmaine, a flying trapeze artist, in 1988. They have five children Nicola ( 17), Jessica(13). The tragic death of their son, Jonathan, in February 1999 inspired them to embark on a campaign to nurture the performing arts in South Africa. They founded Circus Theatre – the imaginative initiative where the performing arts support the community. Various programs are currently running under this banner, CARE : House Jonathan (a home fore mentally challenged adults is firmly established. Anton and Charmaine celebrated the birth of baby Christopher on the 4th August 2000.The most recent addition to the family is another boy, Cameron, born in July 2006.
Anton showed remarkable determination and strength of character when he overcame, against all odds, a brain hemorrhage after being bitten by a spider in June 2001. This resulted in him being partially sighted( he has no sight in the left hemi field of both eyes)His determined dedication to cope with this handicap is inspirational .He has more insight than most fully sighted people.
