Catherine - 1978
Hi, my name is Catherine. I started dancing with the Rob Roy Pipe Band & Highland Dancers (www.macgregordespitethem.com) the first time in September of 1978 when I was almost 6 years old. I had travelled to Scotland with my Mom & Gran that August and saw my cousins Caral & Sandra dancing in shows in Edinburgh. With Rob Roy I performed with the Group at Folklores and at Parent's Night. I lasted through to 1982.
Catherine - 1985
I then joined Rob Roy again in 1985 at age 13 after going to Scotland in June of that year and danced till 1989.
Catherine - 1996
I joined again in 1996 (at the ripe old age of 24) because I was looking for something to do and I had enjoyed dancing before. It has been 10 years this time and I am not quitting any time soon!
Catherine - 2004
I started to compete in 2004 and have hopes of getting out of Beginners this year. For 2004 & 2005 I only competed in Kingston (May & November) and have garnered 2 Fifth Places (Sword) & 2 Sixth Places (Fling & Seann T.). But in 2006, I 'branched' out and tried Ottawa in February (nothing), Kingston in May (6th in Sword), Cobourg in June (5th in Sword) and Almonte (4th in Sword). I also tried Arnprior (3rd in Sword)in September, Ottawa (nothing) in October & Kingston (3rd in Sword & 3rd in Seann T.) in November. My next comp will be Ottawa in February of 2007
Over the last 7 years I have been a part of shows & parades (helping out where I can). I have been the house mother for the last 4 years at the Kingston School of Scottish Music & Dance (www.macgregordespitethem.com/kssmd/index.html) and met some wonderful dancers (Montana M, Samantha M & Daniel C). This year I won a scholarship to the KSSMD and spent a great week learning a lot from Ann & Sheila Milne and met other fantastic dancers.
Catherine - 2005
In 2005 I made a Full Member of the organization (this means I can vote & be a part of the Executive Committee (I am a Dancer Rep. for 2005-2006 & 2006-2007).
We are planning a trip to Scotland that leaves July 29th and returns the 13th of August. We are staying at Strathclyde University and will be competeting at Inverkeithing, Bridge of Allen, Perth Highland Games & the World Pipe Band in Glasgow. I am looking forward to being a part of this! Check out my diary for information about this trip - www.dance.net . . .
