Hip Hop/ Street Dance Educator, Choreographer and Event Coordinator
John specializes in the instruction of hip hop dance culture, freestyle and choreography in the styles of locking, popping, b-boy, modern / street jazz influenced choreography and more. At the age of 14, John was accepted into the "School of the Arts in East Brunswick where he spent the next four years learning modern dance and ballet from a variety of instructors and master teachers. Aside from traditional dance classes, he attended annual courses in human anatomy, improvisational techniques, teaching dance to children, choreography techniques, musical theatre and theatre. In college, John studied childhood education and small business management to round out the important aspects of his dance career training.
From his early teens, John has studied under various hip hop artists and was recruited into WildStyle Crew in 2004. From there, he learned his basic hip hop techniques and gained a love, respect and appreciation for pure hip hop styles under the guidance if Eric Samson where their crew weekly trained heavily in the styles of B-boy, Locking and Popping, with glimpses into technique for house dance, waacking and dancehall. To continue his training, to this day John regularly attends sessions with various crews and hip hop artists, as well as open and master classes throughout NYC.
Along with his crews, and as a solo performer, John's work has been featured at Madison Square Garden, The NY Filipino festival, Monsters of Hip Hop,Battle For Your Life, Hobokens Unity Festival and much more. Recently, Johns crews have been featured artists and finalists at a variety of battles and competitions and John himself has been a featured finalist in All style hip hop battles out of state. He was also a featured dancer in the music video "HSKT" by singer, Tenin. He has placed work on dance groups in and out of state as well as a few college dance groups in New Jersey. Currently, John is currently owner of the revived, "Soul Sessions Hip Hop Dance Convention" and is collaborating with a member of the New York City Breakers as a choreographer and performer for a performance tour on the history of hip hop.
Johns company rehearsals and sessions are designed to teach aspiring dancers the fundamentals of hip hop dance as a freestyle art and techniques to master choreography. His goals are to inspire people to be artists and push themselves creatively and positively both in and out of dance no matter what the obstacles are.
