Katja144's BioI'm Kat (or Katja if you want to call me that). Got started in Highland dance at the "ripe old age" of 23 (well, technically I was 22 when I started and in fact I celebrated my 23rd birthday at a dance rehearsal...nothing like having "happy birthday" played to you on a bagpipe chanter!) and am kicking myself for not having done it sooner! Also a sort of wannabe ballerina and belly dancer (and am not either because I decided Highland was my priority, and once I have the time/finances, I'll worry about the others later!). Besides dancing, I'm really the artsy type and a couch potato--it's just that Highland is one of pretty much only two things in my life that I've found are worth getting sweaty over (karate being the other, but my very brief stint of it in high school was thwarted by scheduling conflicts). It doesn't hurt that I've noticed that for the first time in my life, I actually have some sort of shape to these scrawny sticks I call legs, thanks to dancing! I also sing, play the violin, write music, paint, write, etc. None of it very well, but it's fun and keeps me occupied. I also try to stay involved in my church--both in the choir and handbell group. I identify mostly as "hippie with a small goth streak," and have a tendency toward strong opinions and a lot of sarcasm. I'm also strangely into long hair, fountain pens, henna, essential oils, oldies, Harry Potter, feminism, and A Prairie Home Companion (and in fact am convinced Garrison Keillor, who rocks my tartan socks too much to even describe, should hire me, even if only to make his coffee. Garrison, if you're reading this, call me. I'll send my resume), among other things. If you'd like to contact me outside DDN (that is, by IM, livejournal, etc.), you're certainly welcome to ask, but it'll be at my discretion and I AM picky about getting too personal on the 'net. That is, if you don't post with me regularly--most likely on the Highland board--you'll probably be wasting your time. That sounds harsh, and I've met a bunch of rocking people here that I'd love to party with IRL some time, but the truth is that I'm one of those over-paranoid weirdos who likes to keep as much anonymity online as possible (you won't find any identifiable pictures, full names, or locations in my info) so I don't get too personal with people I don't much know.
