Kelly Baun

Kelly holds a B.F.A. in Dance Performance and Choreography from Kent State University (OH) where she graduated in 2009. Her previous training includes The School of Cleveland San Jose Ballet, The Cleveland Music School Settlement, and The Moving Company School of Dance in Sandusky, OH. While at Kent, Kelly performed featured roles in numerous student and faculty choreographed concerts. She was a soloist in Kimberly Karpanty's jazz piece "Take It Out" and performed a duet in Karpanty's Dance Theatre piece "Torn Asunder". Kelly also appeared in the reconstruction of May O'Donnell's historic work "Dance Energies". She has performed at multiple American College Dance Festivals and professionally with Travesty Dance Group (Cleveland). As a three year member of the Kent Dance Ensemble, she was invited to perform at the 2008 Intercontinental Dance Festival in Madison, WI and with Verlezza Dance in Cleveland, OH. In 2008, Kelly was also invited to attend Ohio Dance Theatre's Choreography Workshop appearing in "Spindrift" choreographed by Artistic Director Denise Gula. Kelly has also danced in works by Tommy Parlon (D.C.) and Lisa Lock (Cleveland).

Aside from performing, Kelly choreographed for the 2008 Student Dance Festival and the B.F.A. Senior Dance Concert in 2009 at Kent State University. Since graduation, she has taught at Studio West Performing Arts Centre in Akron, OH (under direction of Mark Smith & Erin Leyden Smith) for two years. Additionally, Kelly is currently teaching in the Plain Local School District in the Arts Immersion Program in Canton, OH. Her newest teaching project is at First Friends Church where she is co-heading the start to a new dance ministries "Dancing From The Inside Out".

Throughout her education, Kelly has received numerous scholarships and awards for her performance and leadership. She was a 3 year recipient of the Barbara Ellen Adelstein Memorial Scholarship at the Cleveland Music School Settlement and has received many high awards at local and regional competitions. She was also honored by Kent faculty with the Lucy E. Stillings Scholarship Award in 2007, the Darwin Prioleau Scholarship Award in 2008, and the Kathryn E. Mihelick Award in 2009.
