lswanko's Bio

When I was little there was no studio in town, so I started a little late, but then I got to go with the best, starting ballet training with Miss Tania at the UMKC Conservatory of Dance and Music, Kansas City, Missouri.

What else to do but get a dance degree? I am from a family of teachers--so I earned BA in Dance from Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana, 1980. Got in on the last of an amazing generation of teachers from all over the world. www.butler.edu . . .

I decided to teach. I've taught all levels of ballet, jazz and tap to ages 3-adult in the mid-Missouri area since 1981.
In 1992 I started the Sedalia Ballet School, in Sedalia MO. In 2006 I decided to sell(and tried to retire!)

Living in Warrensburg, MO I spent 3 years in fundraising for Public Broadcasting at University of Central Missouri. My husband is the program directer at public radio station 90.9 The Bridge. Assisting with interviews, etc. I have met many amazing musicians and artists of today. We find new acts and have premiered people such as Jack Johnson, Norah Jones, Sarah Bareilles, to name a few. We constantly search for the new, and make discoveries! All this fabulous music eventually led me into dancing again!
I began Graduate Studies in Kinesiology at UCM 2008-09, planning to study bone density in dancers, when a job teaching ballet opened up.
Now I teach for Center Stage Academy in Warrensburg, Missouri.

Yea, 2010, I'm so glad it's a new decade and I'm still here. It's time to dance!
