neodancer's Bio

Sarah Elizabeth Cost was trained under the tutelage of Mihailo Djuric, Christine Simes and Susan Duffy at the School of Ballet New England and Ballet Theatre Workshop. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2005 with a BA in Theatre and Dance. As a high school student, she was a company member with the Children's Repertory Ballet, a pre-professional company associated with BTW. With the company she performed in numerous classical and contemporary works and was often a featured soloist. She was actively involved in BTW's Dance Outreach program, which has toured all over New England to bring the art of dance to school children and the elderly community.

Ms. Cost received additional training at the South Carolina Summer Dance Conservatory working with ballet greats such as Edward Villella, Marianna Tcherkassky and Anna Marie Holmes and jazz masters such as Nan Giordano. She was chosen as a student to work with the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange on the Shipyard Project, which brought visual and performing artists together to celebrate the historical and cultural importance of the Portsmouth Shipyard.

She is no stranger to the world of theatre either, appearing in such roles as Rusty in Footloose, Caroline in Titanic, Jill in Butterflies are Free and supporting roles/featured dancer in Cabaret, Once on this Island, and Fiddler on the Roof (Dance Captain).

While studying at UNH, Cost felt that it was necessary to stretch her wings as a choreographer and give that same opportunity to her classmates. Thus began the Neoteric Dance Collaborative, or the affectionally nicknamed "Neo" in 2004. For the following year Neo would blossom into an environment where young choreographers were free to experiment without limitations and the dancers of the company had the opportunity to dance in fresh, innovative works.

Neo's first two performances sold out to standing room only.

Cost is currently an instructor and the Educational Outreach Coordinator for Ballet New England in Portsmouth, NH.
