PWover50's Bio
Hi to other adult Irish dancers!
I live in San Diego, CA and am a member of the Butler Fearon-O'Connor School of Irish Dance. I decided to start ID at the age of 49 after enjoying watching my daughter dance for over 4 years.
Classes were first just once a week, then jumped to twice, and have been 2-3x week for the past few years. I turned 56 on March 20th and after 5 years of competition, made it to Prizewinner in all my steps; my hornpipe 1st place into PW took 2 years, augghhhh!
Competing less, pub dancing more. Never in my dreams did I envision that I would be still dancing 7 years later. It is my love, and my sanity. ID gives me friends, exercise, keeps the brain sharp, the ability to travel, and most blessedly, helped me to get through the pain of my dear mothers death. I don't know how I would have survived in those dark months without the support of my ID classmates and the mental/physical exertion of dance that, even briefly, allowed me to escape my pain.
I owe ID more than I can ever repay. And to make it even more fun, I love laughing at myself, competing, and especially ranking higher than dancers younger than I. That probably won't last much longer, but it's fun while it lasts!
Adult dancers rock!
