twiggy9207's Bio

14 yrs of Tap
+13 yrs of ballet
+1 yr of lyrical
+1 yr of jazz
+1 yr of pointe
+ a dash of swing and maybe some of that popular stuff
= a very happy and slightly obsessed dancer.

I started dancing when I was little, and have identified myself largely by dance ever since, with growing enthusiasm. The worst time was the year after I was finally allowed to take the expensive competition classes, made the team, and got to go to Showstoppers Nationals. Then we moved and I didnt have a studio yet, and my family didnt have the resources- I had to miss a whole year of dance. But last year I started right back in after giving myself a summer tune-up to prepare as well as a long search for an affordable but good-enough studio. I got into the highest classes at my new studio, and though Im disappointed that it is not nearly as extreme in tap or general technique as my old one, and that it only offers combo classes, rather than focused ones on each style, it is what got me into new styles and has helped me as I explore dance on my own and grow in my love for it. I was allowed en pointe after only a few months back into dance because of a good technique base that stuck with me, and I seem to be good at it- its proved a good distractor from the lacking tap, which always has been my favorite, at least when challenging enough. I also took my first real jazz class, which I never saw myself doing, but ended up enjoying. Im getting back into lyrical on my own, working on my first completed choreographed solo- a Christian piece I hope to perform at my church talent show and maybe in my recital. I also continued my general work in tap, attempted to choreograph a piece, but didnt finish by the performance date- I might come back to it when Im less perfectionist, and dont try so much to live up to my old studios high tap standards, which Ive proudly adopted.

The best complements you could give me would be "I thought you seemed like a Christian" and "You look like a dancer." That tells you my priorities! Im also glad to say that with my new angle towards lyrical, Im learning to dance for God, and have even discovered a long-hiding ability to improv, which Id always thought Id lacked along with facials. Theyre coming along :)

I love to share dance with others, too. Ive taught several dance workshops for elementary and middle school kids in a musical thrater drama camp, and for Girl Scouts. Ive also been a choreographer for the play "School House Rocks Live" and a dancer in several other plays, aside from other various techie jobs in my school's drama department. Aside from this, Ill be one of my marching bands'drum majors this year, which is exciting, though Ill miss flute section-leading and the piccolo. Im artsy in general, and also do different visual arts, have done some music composition, and poetry, and that sort of thing... Thats aside from being in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, which is basically the "nerd herd" at school, and I love being a part of it. (Nerd pride!)

Every day my love of dance increases, and though I have little intention of doing anything with it as a career (Ive only very casually sconsidered teaching), I definetley plan on continuing dancing for the rest of my life just for the love of it.

So, thats about it...
